Phil Lesh & Friends Play Ten Shows in New York, New Jersey

Former Grateful Dead member Phil Lesh will appear around New York and New Jersey this fall for a 10-date outing in three cities.

Phil Lesh and Friends will kick things off with a three-night stand at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, N.J. on November 7-9. Then they will travel to the Roseland Ballroom in New York City for a three night stand. Finally, the group will set up in the newly renovated Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. for four nights November 15-18.

The “and Friends” portion of the band name comprises an ever-evolving cast of musicians, and the incarnation for this tour will include Jackie Greene, John Kadlecik and Joe Russo. Jeff Chementi will appear for the Wellmont Theatre dates and the first Roseland Ballroom night. Adam MacDougall will then play with the band for the remaining dates of the tour.

“Phil Lesh is entering his 15th year of playing with a rotating mix of Friends, both old and new,” reads a description of the band on Lesh’s official website. “Phil began playing under the moniker Phil Lesh and Friends in 1998 after he’d returned to performing following the death of his friend and bandmate Jerry Garcia in 1995. With a varied mixture of some of the best performing musicians in the live music universe, Phil has kept his musical journey fresh by constantly and consistently putting together bands featuring dynamic, exciting musicians and singers working together toward keeping the music of the Grateful Dead moving forward into the future.”

Other musicians that have appeared with Lesh over the years include Trey Anastasio, Ryan Adams, Larry Campbell, Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi and Chris Robinson.

Lesh has only released one studio album under his own name since his days in the Dead – 2002’s There and Back Again. However, he did release a two-disc live album, Live at the Warfield.
