The English musician, songwriter and singer Peter Gabriel was born in Chobham, Surrey on February 13, 1950. Gabriel rose to fame during the time he was the lead vocalist for Genesis, a progressive rock band. After Gabriel left Genesis, he went on to have a very successful solo career. Recently Gabriel has focused his efforts on promoting and producing world music as well as pioneering new music digital distribution methods. He also support various humanitarian efforts. In 2009 Gabriel won the Polar Music Prize and became a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 as a Genesis band member.

Genesis was found in 1967 by Gabriel and fellow Charterhouse School students Chris Stewart, Mike Rutherford, Anthony Phillips and Tony Banks. Peter Gabriel was known for his flamboyant stage presence and outrageous costumes that he wore on stage. Gabriel left Genesis in 1975.

Peter Gabriel refused to give his first four solo sets titles. They all were called “Peter Gabriel.” Gabriel's next three albums were titled “So” (1986), “Us” (1992) and “Up” (2002). His third self-titled album included the hit singles “Biko,” “I Don't Remember” and “Games Without Frontiers.” His fourth self-titled album included “Shock the Monkey,” his first U.S. Top 40 hit. Gabriel's 1986 album “So” brought him his greatest popularity. The album spawned three U.S. Top 40 hits: “Big Time,” “In Your Eyes” and “Sledgehammer.” “Scratch My Back,” a cover songs set,” was released by Gabriel in 2010.
