Paul McCartney Closes Out 2009 in Europe
The Paul McCartney tour spent is summer wooing the American concert going public, and now its time to bring that taste of “Macca” to Europe. McCartney will embark on a seven arena trek including his solo UK appearance at the O2 Arena in London. It will be his first time performing in Europe since 2004. The tour will kick off in Hamburg, Germany on 12/2 and will pack up stakes once they reach the O2 Arena on 12/22.
When recently asked about his return to Europe, McCartney stated, “This is my chance to bring our current show home to where it all began. Starting in Hamburg, ending in London, and rocking everywhere in between, I’m very much looking forward to ending the year on a high.” 2009 has proved to be an eventful year for Paul. He notched two Grammy nominations, headlined Coachella Music Festival, opened the New Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas as well as gave Halifax, Nova Scotia its first Paul McCartney experience.
Rumors are already afloat that McCartney may be ramping up for a 2010 retirement tour. A source tells The Sun, “Paul wants to go out with a bang. He’s played countless stadiums over his 50-year career and is on the hunt for the most unusual locations he can find. He realizes that the older he gets, the less his body will be able to cope with the demands of extended periods on the road. He might play the odd benefit gig – but other than that he’ll be putting his feet up and enjoying retirement. The tour in 2010 is likely to last well over a year, by which time he will be almost 70.” Some of the unusual locations discussed have been China’s Tiananmen Square and Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, Germany
