The English songwriter-singer and occasional actor Ozzy Osbourne was born on December 3, 1948 in Aston, Birmingham in England. His career spans over 40 years in music and he has sold more than 100 million worldwide albums through December 2010.

Osbourne rose to fame as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, a pioneering heavy metal British band. The band's radically different, intentionally doom and dark sound spawned the music genre of heavy metal. Osbourne in his later career as a solo artist, achieved the status of multi-platinum along with the one he achieved as a member of Black Sabbath. Osbourne is known as “Godfather of Heavy Metal.” While with Black Sabbath, due to their music's dark style, Osbourne was dubbed “Prince of Darkness.” Ozzy Osbourne has more than fifteen tattoos, including the famous O-Z-Z-Y letters across his left hand's knuckles. He created the tattoo himself when he was a teenager using pencil lead and a sewing needle.

Osbourne's career expanded during the early 2000s into a new medium. He starred in “The Osbournes,” his reality show, along with his manager and wife Sharon and Jack and Kelly, two of the couple's three children.
