Of Montreal Lays Down the Quirk on Tour of Eastern US
Of Montreal, the Indie rockers, have lined several US headlining dates up for this month as well as next to hold fans over while the band continues tinkering on their new studio album.
The group from Athens, GA, featuring Kevin Barnes, their eccentric founder and front man, will kick off their outing of nine cities in Baltimore on January 25 and finish up their eastern trek in Nashville on February 6.
In recent months Of Montreal has been busy finishing the band’s tenth studio album. According to Barnes the tentative title is “False Priest.” A release date has not been named as of yet, but the album will follow up on the group’s most recent album “Skeletal Lamping” from 2008.
In a recent interview with Under the Radar Magazine Barnes said their new album was influenced by ’80s New Wave and ’70s funk. He added it was a weird evolution, kind of a freaky evolution that was happening and that I’m letting it just happen. It doesn’t depart totally from “Skeletal Lamping” or “Hissing Fauna” from 2007, but it definitely is different. There is a different quality for sure.
Polyvinyl, the current record label for Of Montreal in October reissued five earlier albums of the band, including “The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy” (1988), “Coquelicot Asleep In The Poppies: A Variety of Whimscial Verse,” (2001), “Aldhils Arboretum (2002), “The Bird Who Continues to Eat the Rabbit’s Flower (1997 EP), and “The Early four Track Recordings” (2001 compilation).
