New Kids, Backstreet Boys to Play Fenway Park

According to the Boston Herald, New Kids on the Block will Play Fenway

Can New Kids on the Block show the right stuff at Fenway Park?

It certainly seems so. NKOTB have come back together and will give a concert on June 11 where the Red Sox play. The Backstreet Boys will also play at that concert says a person with inside knowledge. Live Nation, a well-known concert promoter will officially release the information at a press conference on Wednesday. The press conference will be held at Fenway Park.

The inside source stated to the Herald, “Long before they were famous, the New Kids were huge Sox fans and used to come and hang out at the ball park quite often. When they made it big they still came to the park. It’s a huge thrill for them to play Fenway”.

Even though their concert at the TD Garden a week before the Fenway concert on June 4 is already sold out, the New Kids sought out a concert deal with the Sox in December. Afterward, the Red Sox sent in an application for show permits for the dates of June 11 and June 12.

Are the New Kids excited about playing Fenway? They must be if they are willing to alter their brutal tour schedule.

The five members of NKOB, Danny Wood, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, and Joey McIntyre are scheduled to hold a concert at Long Island’s Nassau Memorial Coliseum on June 11. If they want to play a concert at Fenway, they will be required to change that date. In the case that the Saturday concert sells out, they may possibly add another concert on Sunday. But they would have to postpone a second concert that is already set for East Rutherford’s Izod Center in New Jersey.

In 2003, Red Sox owner John Henry started holding non-baseball events in the park, which is now 98 years old. Bruce Springsteen was the first to hold a concert there. The list of other musicians who have been honored enough to play the park include the Rolling Stones, the Police, Jimmy Buffett, Paul McCarney, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, and Neil Diamond. Until 2010, however, no local acts had been invited. Aerosmith/J. Geils Band played together that year. The local groups were a complete success with the tickets selling out within minutes of going on sale.

So, will the New Kids on the Block be able to hang with those legends?

Most likely.

Ever since the New Kids got back together, they have been very successful. They sold out the TD Garden in 2008. In 2009, they played to a full house at Mansfield’s Comcast Center.

Because they will be joined by the Backstreet Boys, fans will be treated to a double dose of boy band bliss. They will play 41 concerts together over the summer. Together, they have sold in excess of 200 million albums, which is about 50 million more than Aerosmith.
