New Girl Zooey Deshanel Gets Back to Music with She & Him Tour
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward will tour once again as She & Him this year to support an upcoming new album.
The tour will begin at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on June 13, and will continue until a Vienna, Virginia show at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap on July 11. The theater and auditorium tour also will visit Austin, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, New York and Boston, among others.
Some of the shows will be part of festivals, including the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Toronto Urban Roots Festival and New York’s Central Park Summerstage.
The group’s new record, Volume 3, will be released on May 7 and includes 11 songs written by Deschanel and three covers. One of the covers, “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” is a song by Mel Carter that may be best known to the youngsters as U2’s cover from the 1995 “Batman Forever” soundtrack.
Volume 3 will be the first new music for the band since A Very She & Him Christmas was released in 2011. Before that the group released Volume Two in 2010 and Volume One in 2008. Billboard reports that the duo’s Christmas album is its bestselling record to date, and that She & Him have sold a total of more than 900,000 copies of the three records.
In addition to songwriting, Deschanel sings and plays ukulele and piano in the group. She is best known as an actor and currently stars in the second season of the Fox television comedy “New Girl.” She also has appeared in “Elf,” “Almost Famous” and “500 Days of Summer.”
M. Ward plays guitar and produces the band’s album, and is known for his solo career as well as being member of the indie-group supergroup Monsters of Folk with Conor Oberst, Jim James and Mike Mogis.
