Nashville’s Soundland Music Festival Get Axed

Folks looking forward to this year’s SoundLand Music Festival in Nashville will have to wait another year.

The one-day festival, which was set to include My Morning Jacket, Divine Fits, Nikki Lane and Young the Giant on October 6 at  the Lawn at Riverfront Park, has been cancelled. An exact reason for the cancellation hasn’t been issued, with the festival’s official website only citing “issues out of everyone’s control.”

“We’ve been so excited to bring you an all-new outdoor SoundLand experience in 2012 and have been working for months on creating a one-day extravaganza Oct. 6th at The Lawn at Riverfront Park,” reads a statement on the website. “Unfortunately, issues out of everyone’s control have caused us to put this vision on hold until 2013.”

The statement also adds that those that had already purchased tickets for the festival should have received an email containing refund details.

SoundLand started as the Next BIG Nashville festival in 2006, and hosted eclectic lineups featuring emerging Nashville acts as well as national touring artists every year. The event was a four-day event held at multiple venues around the city. The festival converted to Next BIG Nashville presents SoundLand in 2011.

Other acts scheduled to perform at the event this year were J.D. McPherson, The Weeks, PUJOL and Jonny Fritz.

The official website points out that the new label means other festivals also will be presented by the company. The site points out that Nashville music fans should “Also stay tuned for details about HUSTLE: The Biggest Dance Party of the Year and others.”

The Lawn at Riverfront park is a new outdoor space in downtown Nashville on the banks of the Cumberland, which winds its way through the city. The space will host the With Your Friends electronic music fest October 26-27 of this year. The festival includes sets by Skillex Nas, Santigold and many more.
