my morning jacket Biography

The American rock band My Morning Jacket was formed in Louisville, Kentucky in 1998 by guitarist, songwriter and singer Jim James. Current members of the band include James (aka Yim Yames), bassist Tom Blankenship, drummer Patrick Hallahan, Carl Broemel (vocalist, saxophonist, pedal steel guitarist and guitarist) and Bo Koster (vocalist, percussionist and keyboardist).

My Morning Jacket was signed by Darla Records. They released “The Tennessee Fire,” their debut album, in 1999. “At Dawn,” their second album, was released in 2001. In 2002, the band moved to ATO Records and released “It Still Moves” in 2003. In 2004 they released “Early Recordings Chapter 1- The Sandworm Cometh” as well as “Early Recordings Chapter 2- Learning,” two discs of early works, including cover versions, lived recordings and demos.

In 2005, My Morning Jacket released “Z,” their critically album with Sony BMG. They were featured in Elizabethtown, the 2005 film, using the name Ruckus. They released “Evil Urges” in 2008 and also performed at Bonnaroo Music Festival and Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival that year. “Evil Rages” received a Grammy nomination as Best Alternative Rock Album.

The band has also performed at Big Day Out festival and provided support for Neil Young during his tour of Australia. They released “Celebracion de al Ciudad Natal” on April 18 2009, Record Store Day. The EP consists of eight songs drawn from two of their live recordings.

In 2010, the band performed at the New York Terminal 5 from October 18-23, where each night they performed a different studio release of theirs along with some other material. My Morning Jacket's next album, “Circuital,” is due out in Spring 2011.
