Mix Tape Festival Adds 98 Degrees, Carly Rae Jepsen

A rumored reunion of boy band 98 Degrees has been confirmed, as the band has been added to this year’s MixTape festival lineup along with new sensation Carly Rae Jepsen.

“We are so excited to reunite and be a part of the Summer MixTape Festival,” 98 degrees said in a statement. “It’s been over 10 years since we last performed together and there’s nothing that makes us more excited than being on stage as a group. This will be a chance for us to see old fans and meet new ones all while singing the songs we know people love to hear. We couldn’t think of a better place and time to do this.”

The band will appear at the festival on August 18, which is the second day of the two day festival. The event will be held at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey Pennsylvania. Jepsen’s performance will be the same day as 98 degrees.

The announcement that Jepsen will play at the stadium comes just a week after she announced that she would be opening for Justin Bieber for his extensive tour that is scheduled to begin in September of this year. Bieber is in part responsible for Jepsen’s current success, as earlier this year he tweeted that the then-unknown Canadian artists’ song “Call Me Maybe” is “probably the catchiest song I’ve ever heard.” The song has become something of an internet sensation since, being covered by numerous amateurs and stars, including Katy Perry and James Franco.

Previously announced headliners for the MixTape Festival include New Kids on the Block, Kelly Clarkson and the Fray. New Kids on the Block also will perform another set with the Backstreet Boys as part of the supergroup NKOTBSB. The appearance will be that group’s only North American performance this year.

Though the previous 98 degrees rumors hinted at a world tour, the band hasn’t confirmed this yet, and say they will use the MixTape appearance to test the waters and “see how it feels.”
