Maxwell, Robin Thicke, Erykah Badu Headline Arizona Jazz Festival
The Arizona Jazz festival is happening soon and the headliners are looking pretty stout.
The bi-annual event is scheduled to take place on October 25th-27th, and recently moved its location from Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park to the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa in Phoenix.
The move was announced earlier this week, with festival organizers claiming that “circumstances have required us to change the venue.” Yes, organizers, but what circumstances?!
Either way, the new venue, namely the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa, sounds like a pretty decent replacement, with organizers describing it as “Arizona’s only AAA Four Diamond and M&C Gold Key Award winning, all suite resort.” Tickets and room reservations will obviously still apply at the new venue– and officials have said that previous reservations will be upgraded. WOO!
Anyhow, yes, the line-up. The whole thing is gonna be headlined by Robin Thicke, Maxwell, Erykah Badu and Chaka Khan, but saxophonist Eric Darius and vocalist/producer Lyfe Jennings will also be putting in appearances on the Friday.
Saturday is when Erykah Badu and Chaka Khan take the stage, but proceedings will be kicked off by Gerald Albright, Richard Elliot and Euge Groove, with a supergroup-style jam scheduled for the end of the night.
Sunday seems to belong to the saxophone, with saxophonists Jessy J. and Michael Lington getting the party started, and Eric Benet, Robin Thicke and Keyshia Cole wrapping everything up.
The Arizona Jazz festival, in its current incarnation, has only been happening since 2012, before which it was known as the Desert Ridge Jazz Festival, and took place in Northern Phoenix. In the past, it’s played host to some pretty important neo-jazz folk, including Jill Scott, Will Downing, The Isley Brothers, Mindi Abair, Peter White and many more, and has established itself as a premier event for R&B and jazz music fans across the continent.
