Matchbox Twenty Fill Winter with Tour Dates

Matchbox Twenty will head out on an extensive 39-date North American tour next year to support their most recent album, North.

The group will kick things off on January 29, 2013 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Catoosa, Okla., and the tour will continue through March 30 with a show at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif. The band also will play cities including Des Moines; Kalamazoo, Mich.; Niagara Falls, Ontario; Atlantic City; Poughkeepsie, N.Y and Savannah, Ga.

North was released in September of this year, and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, largely on the success of the single “She’s So Mean,” which preceded the album and was available in June. The song peaked at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Before North, the band hadn’t released a studio album containing all new material since 2002’s More Than You Think You Are. The group did, however, record six new songs for an otherwise Greatest Hits compilation, Exile on Mainstream, which was released in 2007.

In the time between More Than You Think You Are and North, lead singer Rob Thomas released two solo albums, 2005’s …Something to Be and 2009’s Cradlesong.  The former also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, though the latter peaked at number three.

The group first became well-known after the release of their debut album Yourself or Someone Like You in 1996. The album is certified Diamond in the United States with more than 12 million copies sold. It also is certified multi-platinum in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and has sold more than 15 million copies around the world. The record included a slew of hit singles include “3 A.M.,” “Push,” “Real World,” “Back 2 Good,” “Long Day” and “Girl Like That.”
