maroon 5 Biography

The American rock band Maroon 5 was formed originally as Kara's Flowers, a garage band, in 1994 in Los Angeles, California by high school friends Adam Levine (rhythm guitar, lead vocalist), Jesse Carmichael (keyboardist), Mickey Madden (bass guitarist) and Ryan Dusick (drummer). In 1997, they released one album. In 2002 the band reformed as Maroon 5 with James Valentine (guitarist). In 2003 the band released “Songs About Jane,” their debut album, which spawned four hit singles: “Sunday Morning,” “She Will Be Loved,” “This Love” and “Harder to Breathe.” The album went triple platinum, platinum and gold in many countries all over the world.

Throughout 2003-05, Maroon 5 went on extensive tours to back “Songs About Jane.” During this time period they released two live albums. In 2005 Maroon 5 won a Grammy Award as Best New Artist. In September 2006, Dusick left the group due to injuries caused by constant touring. Matt Flynn replaced him as the band's new drummer. In 2007, the band released “It Won't Be Soon Before Long,” their second studio album, spawning the singles “Wake Up Call,” “Won't Go Home Without You” and “Makes Me Wonder.” From June to November 2007, the band went on two tours. They also released “The B-Side Collection,” a compilation of songs that had previously been unreleased.

In 2008, the band released a remix album and two additional live albums. “Hands All Over,” the third studio album from Maroon 5, was released in September 2010. The band, since their 2002 debut, has sold more than 10 million U.S. albums and 15 million worldwide copies.
