Linkin Park Snags Number 1 Album Spot from Trey Songz
After a record low album sales last week as reported by Billboard, album sales have bounced back thanks to new releases hitting the shelves this week and an album-by-album bout between Linkin Park and Trey Songz, with the former emerging as this week’s king, or should we say kings, of the charts.
Linkin Park’s “A Thousand Suns” takes over the top spot at the Billboard 200 this week after moving 241,000 copies of the said release, a mere thousand copies more than Trey Songz’ “Passion, Pain & Pleasure” which now sits comfortably at second place.
As mentioned, this week’s new releases redeemed the album sales from a staggering fall. Releases from country artist Jamey Johnson (“The Guitar Song”) which moved 63,000 copies thus cementing its spot at no.4, former Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant and his “Band of Joy” album at no.5, followed by “Hurley” from Weezer at no.6, and “Flamingo” from The Killers’ front man Brandon Flowers at no.8 dominate the charts this week.
Completing the list is Eminem’s “Recovery” at no.3, whose performance at the MTV VMAs helped a lot in pushing the record back at the top 10, “Lungs” from Florence and the Machine at no.7, and Justin Bieber’s first full length LP, “My World 2.0”, wrapping up the charts at number 10. Meanwhile, Sara Bareilles, who ruled the charts last week with her second studio effort “Kaleidoscope Heart”, sloped all the way down to number 12.
