LCD Soundsystem to Sign Off at Madison Square Garden

It turns out James Murphy, the mastermind behind LCD Soundsysem, was serious about last year’s set “This Is Happening” being the band’s last album.

LCD Soundsysem has announced they will be performing a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 2. According to the press release, it will be their first and last time to headline at the famous venue as well as their last, ultimate and definitive LCD live show.

Dubbed “LCD Soundsystem: The Long Goodbye,” the band is planning to perform for three hours, the longest performance ever for them. They are planning to play numerous songs from their recorded catalogue which haven’t been performed before in concert.

There will be horn and string sections along with a choir to augment LCD’s lineup which consists of Murphy, Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney, Gavin Russom, Al Doyle, Matt Thornley and Tyler Pope. Special guests will also be joining the band in addition to some musicians LCD Soundsystem has worked with over their career.

In addition the press release added LCD Soundsystem is going to observe a dress code of black and white clothes only for the show and is requesting the audience to as well.

Opening the show will be Liquid Liquid, with additional details to follow. On February 11, tickets will start to go on sale.

Murphy, in a Rolling Stone magazine interview in 2010, suggested “This is Happening” could be the final studio release from LCD Soundsystem.

He said, I feel it should be our last record. Lots of people end up making three good albums, but don’t make good ones anymore. I feel I made this band about how I was feeling about music and as an argument. I feel I have explained myself, so now it is time for doing something different.
