kelly clarkson Biography

Kelly Clarkson is a Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter best remembered as the winner of the inaugural season of the long-running talent show series ‘American Idol’. Her first single, ‘A Moment Like This’, propelled her not only to chart-topper status but also to record-breaker status as the single, which was written specifically for the ‘Idol’ winner of that season and subsequently appeared in Clarkson’s debut release entitled ‘Thankful’, made the giant leap from no. 52 to no. 1 at the Billboard 100, breaking the record posted by The Beatles.

Fort Worth native Clarkson was born on April 24, 1982. She began writing songs while in high school, and it was also during this time when her vocal talent was discovered and praised by her superiors, peers and random audience members after participating in school musicals like ‘Brigadoon’, ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ and ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. Her vocal range is recognized as soprano with Simon Cowell comparing her to the likes of Celine Dion. Music critic Arion Berger of Rolling Stone magazine even took note of Clarkson’s vocal versatility: "her high notes are sweet and pillowy, her growl is bone-shaking and sexy, and her midrange is amazingly confident…”, as such, from the pop-mellow ballads she was accustomed to sing in ‘Idol’, Clarkson successfully and easily transitions back-and-forth from pop to pop-rock and recently, to country music, with her collaborations with Reba McIntyre, Rascal Flatts and Jason Aldean now part of her discography.

To date, Clarkson has released five studio albums. She released in 2003 her double-platinum debut ‘Thankful’ and in 2004, her sophomore, sextuple-platinum and most successful album to date ‘Breakaway’ which spawned the hits ‘Since U Been Gone’, ‘Behind These Hazel Eyes’, ‘Because of You’ and the title track, which also appeared in the official soundtrack of ‘Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’. She followed it up with the platinum-certified 2007 release ‘My December’ which featured the single ‘Never Again’ and 2009’s ‘All I Ever Wanted’ which spawned ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’, a song which overthrew her own previous record after it made the big chart leap from no. 97 to no. 1 in the Billboard 100. The release also birthed the controversial Ryan Tedder-penned single ‘Already Gone’, whose style and instrumentation were closely similar to Beyonce’s ‘Halo’. Her latest release, ‘Stronger’, was released in October 2011 with the lead single ‘Mr. Know It All’ charting at no.10 at the Billboard 100.
