The American singer, rapper and record producer Kanye West was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 8, 1977. West first became famous as a Roc-A-Fella Records producer. He received recognition for the work he did on “The Blueprint” by Jay-Z in addition to other hit singles for other musicians, including Janet Jackson, Ludacris and Alicia Keys. Originally West's production style used vocal samples that were pitched-up from soul songs incorporating drums as well as other instruments. On subsequent productions West broadened his musical palette, incorporating influences from classical music, synth-pop, electronica, alternative, folk, arena rock, trip hop, baroque pop and '70s R&B.

Kanye West has released five albums and all have been certified platinum, won critical claim and won many awards, including fourteen Grammys. “The College Dropout,” West's debut album, was released in 2004. “Late Registration” was released in 2005, “Graduation” in 2007. In 2008, Kanye West released “808s & Heartbreak” and in 2010 “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” All the albums have been commercial successes. Upon its release “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” became West's fourth No. 1 U.S. album in a row. West owns GOOD Music, a record label, as well. Their artists include Kid Cudi, Common and John Legend.
