kaiser chiefs Biography

The English indie rock group Kaiser Chiefs were established in 1997 in Leeds. Band members include Nick “Peanut” Baines (percussion, keyboards), Simon Rix (bass), Andrew White (guitar), Nick Hodgson (lead vocals, backing vocals, drums) and Ricky Wilson (percussion, lead vocals).

The Kaiser Chiefs released “Employment,” their debut album, in 2005. The set was inspired by primarily punk rock and New Wave music from the 1970s and 1980s. It sold more than three million copies and was on the Mercury Prize shortlist. “Employment” received an Ivor Novello award as Best Album in 2006.

“Yours Truly, Angry Mob,” the band's second album, was released in 2007. The set rose to the No. 1 spot on UK albums chart as well as No. 45 on Billboard's 200 chart. It spawned a No. 1 hit single in the U.K. called “Ruby.” “Off with Their Heads,” their third album, was released in 2008. Kaiser Chiefs then went on a hiatus of three years before releasing “The Future Is Medieval, their fourth album, in 2011. They provided fans with the ability to create an individual album by selecting 10 from the 20 songs to download. The album's official track listing was released in June 2011, with 12 available tracks as well as “Kinda Girl You Are,” a track that had been previously unheard.
