Josh Groban Does Teaser Theatre Shows in California and Connecticut
Recently Josh Groban, the classical-pop singer, unveiled plans for his special concert tour which will precede the release of “Illuminations,” Groban’s latest studio album. The release date for the new set is November 15. Four shows played in two states will precede the release.
The bi-coastal pre-trek will start in California with shows in Palm Desert at McCallum Theatre on November 6, in San Diego at Balboa Theatre on November 7, and in Santa Barbara at The Granada on November 10. Following his run of three shows in California, Groban will be returning East for one performance in New Haven, CT at Shubert Theater on November 13.
Concert tour presales will start on October 21 with public onsales starting on October 22. The prices on tickets, according to current venue listings on the tour, start at approximately $50. “Illuminations” is being included with the price of tickets in a special offer. Upon its release the set will be shipped to ticket buyers.
It is Groban’s first headlining tour in three years. It came about due to Groban wanting to get his fans involved in what he refers to as the first step for producing a large scale tour.
On Groban’s official website he explained, there are so many steps involved in going out on tour to prepare for what eventually people see as a big production. Actually the first step that I take is very simple. I just go into my living room and sit down at my piano and start playing. I try exploring my songs in different ways and practice also as much as I can in order for the songs to get into my voice and hands. Also, I think about songs I want to play that I haven’t played in years on tour. Then I may bring my guitarist in and work on additional songs.
This all happens before moving things to a rehearsal space that is more formal with full orchestra and band. This time around, however, I wanted to try to do things differently. I am bringing You to my living room. I wanted this tour’s first step to be right in front of all of you.
It isn’t clear when Groban is planning to follow the four concerts up with a tour that is full length, or how long such a tour would be. Last time the multi-Platinum singer headlined a major tour was in 2007 when his “Awake Tour” supported “Awake,” his release from late 2006.
That tour had two legs and visited over 70 markets worldwide. For the week that ended April 29, 2007 Groban earned the No. 6 spot on the TicketNews Top Events Rankings.
