John Mayer Readies Album, Plays Dates

John Mayer, who is currently adding finishing touches to the follow up of his Grammy Award winning album “Continuum, returns to the stage with Pino Palladino, bassist, and Steve Jordan, drummer, for a pair of shows at the end of the year. Mayer, Palladino and Jordan are collectively called the John Mayer Trio.

The trio kicks things off with a performance on December 20 at the Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego and then on New Year’s Eve have a performance in Las Vegas at The Joint. Tickets for these two shows went on sale on September 26. A full John Mayer tour is expected in early 2010.

For most of 2009, Mayer has been working on a fourth studio album. On his Twitter feed he recently announced that the new album will be called “Battle Studies” and is due out on November 17. “Who Says” will be the first single.

Jordan and Mayer, who were co-producers on “Continuum” are teaming up once again on “Battle Studies.” The album will feature Palladino on bass and Jordan on the drums.

Mayer, Palladino and Jordan first appeared publicly during the 2005 Grammy Awards in a segment for Tsunami aid. The trio then toured together as the John Mayer Trio. In November 2005 they released “Try,” a live album.
