John Legend, Lenny Kravitz Head Up Gulf Aid Benefit

Musicians with Lousiana ties will be extending a hand in this weekend’s Gulf Aid benefit concert in New Orleans. Some of these musicians include John Legend, Lenny Kravitz, Ani DiFranco, and Mos Def.

The concert is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 16, at the Mardi Gras World River City in New Orleans. The Gulf Coast fishermen and others affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will be the beneficiaries of this fund-raising event.

Two stages will be set up and both will overlook the Mississippi river. Other artists who will join the event include the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Allen Toussaint, Zachary Richard and The Voice of the Wetlands All-stars. There will also be a star-studded impromptu group which will include Tad Benoit, Dr. John, George Porter Jr., Cyril Neville, Waylon Thibodeaux, and various others.

The tickets are available through Elevate Tickets for $50. For more information, visit the events’ ticketing website.

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage station WWOZ-FM (90.7) will be broadcasting the show live.
