Jimmy Cliff, Luciano Highlight Sierra Nevada World Music Festival

Jimmy Cliff and Luciano will be among the artists featured at this year’s Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (SNWMF), organizers recently announced.

The 19th annual Northern California festival will take place this year from June 22-24 at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, Calif. Additional notable artists that will appear at the festival include Linton Kwesi Johnson, Third World and Israel Vibration. More artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

Focused primarily on Reggae and World Music, the festival promotes what organizers call “conscious” music. The official website of the event explains this term in further detail:

Conscious music is music with a message of peace, unity and brotherhood, which transcends the divisions of race and culture. Over the past 18 years we have endeavored to build a community where Conscious music, Roots music and World music is embraced. Where bringing diverse people from many lands together in celebration yields more than just the sum of SNWMF, people experiences a unique sense of unity and belonging, a semi-utopian moment in time where love, generosity, joy and innocence can be reclaimed.

The festival will feature two stages, as well as a late-night dancehall for attendees. In addition to the music performances, the event also will feature a global village of arts, crafts and food. The festival is kid friendly and features an extensive children’s program.

Fans that attend the event can camp on the grounds during the three-day festival, but camping passes are not included in the price of admission to the music festival. Three-day passes are priced at $160 for the music portion of the festival.

Camping will add an additional $70 to the price of admission, and camping opens at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 22. Each camp site offers a 10’x10’ space behind each vehicle. Vehicles are not permitted to leave the campground and return without paying an additional camping fee.
