Jimmy Buffett Brings Margaritaville to Pensacola, Jacksonville
Just in time to buy tickets for the Parrothead on your Christmas list, Jimmy Buffett has announced two Florida shows for early next year.
Buffett will appear along with his Coral Reefer Band at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida on February 5, and then at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on February 7. Tickets for both shows are on sale now.
The Pensacola News Journal points out that the last time Buffett appeared in the city was in April 2011 for an acoustic performance at the National Naval Aviation Museum. His most recent appearance in the area with the full band was for the Concerts for the Coast benefit in Gulf Shores, Alabama in July 2010. The latter concert was in response to the BP oil spill.
Buffett’s tour schedule has been sporadic recently, though he did head Down Under for two shows in Australia back in September – one in Brisbane and the other in Melbourne. He also performed two shows in Las Vegas in October.
His most recent original studio album was 2009’s Buffett Hotel, featuring many songs co-written by Buffett and singer/songwriters Tommy Womack and/or Will Kimbrough. His most commercially successful album of late is 2004’s License to Chill, which features a cover of Hank Williams’ classic “Hey Good Lookin.’” The recording of that song features country stars Alan Jackson, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith and Clint Black.
In other Buffett news, the singer recently sold his Cheeseburger in Paradise chain of theme restaurants. The chain, named after one of his most popular songs, was bought by Luby’s Inc. for $11 million. The chain was founded 10 years ago by Buffett in collaboration with Paradise Restaurants Group LLC, and currently has 23 locations in 14 states. In previous years, the chain has reportedly generated revenues of more than $50 million.
