Jeff Beck, Brian Wilson Join Forces for 18-Date Trek
Jeff Beck and Brian Wilson have just announced an 18-day joint tour beginning on September 27th in Hollywood, Florida and ending a month later in Akron, Ohio.
It’d be difficult to describe the shape of their route, because they kind of erratically creep up the East Coast like a musical spider for the first leg of the tour, and then sort of mosey across in a pattern not really resembling any regular polygon. It’s probably amoeba-shaped, to be honest, not that I really know what the hell they look like, and it sees them head Georgia-wards, Connecticut-wards, then across to Nevada and California, with stuff in between too.
Wilson says two of his Beach Boys (Al Jardine and David Marks) willl also be along for the tour, and in an interview with USA Today, Jeff Beck predictably said some endearing but also annoyingly gushing things about Brian Wilson.
According to the Greek Theatre website listing for one show, Wilson also said some nice things about Beck, as follows:
“Jeff is one of the most amazing guitarists I’ve ever worked with and his vibe is inspiring…I feel like this is a cool continuation of what we did last year with the exciting addition of Jeff Beck. We’ve got some new tunes we want to try out on a live crowd as well as doing some great music from our catalogues.”
Oh yeah – and to give that quote some context – this isn’t actually the first time they’ve teamed up either; they played ‘Surf’s Up’ and ‘Surfin’ USA’ together at MusiCares’ Person of the Year ceremony back in ’06. Beck is also contributing to Wilson’s upcoming album, though information about it is scarce so that’s all we can tell you.
I wish them the best of the good vibrations on their tour.
(On an unrelated note, is it just me or does Jeff Beck look a lot like a muppet these days? Like, in a nice, sort of cuddly way?)
