Jay-Z, the American rapper, was born as Shawn Corey Carter on December 4, 1969 in Brooklyn, NY. He is one of the most financially successful American hip hop artists as well as entrepreneurs. In 2010 his net worth was estimated to be more than $450 million by Forbes magazine. Jay-Z has sold 50 million worldwide albums. He has also won thirteen Grammys along with numerous other nominations.

Jay-Z is the owner of the 40/40 Club, a New Jersey Nets part owner and creator of Rocawear, a clothing line. He is also a Def Jam Recordings former CEO, a Roc-A-Fella Records founder and also founded Roc Nation. As a performing artist, Jay-Z is the record holder for most No. 1 albums from a solo artist on Billboard's 200 chart, in addition to have four No. 1 hits on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Jay-Z has released 11 studio albums over the course of his career, with the last being “The Blueprint 3,” released in September 2009.

Jay-Z married Beyonce Knowles, the American R&B singer and superstar, in April 2008. Billboard Magazine ranked Jay-Z has the 2000-2009's tenth most successful artist, fifth best solo male artist as well as fourth top rated rapper, trailing only 50 Cent, Nelly and Eminem.
