janes addiction Biography

The alternative rock band Jane's Addiction was formed in 1985 in Los Angeles. The original line-up of the band consisted of vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins. The band broke up in 1991 but reunited briefly in 1997, then once more in 2001. Avery declined to participate in both of the reunions. In 2008, the classic line-up of the band with Avery featured reunited and had a world tour. In early 2010, Avery left the band just as they had begun to work on some new material. Jane's Addiction to date has released three studio albums. In September 2011, their fourth set is due to be released.

During the early 1990s, Jane's Addiction helped to pioneer the alternative rock movement and was among the first groups to garner commercial success and mainstream media attention. The initial farewell tour of the band's help to launch the inaugural Lollapalooza festival to showcase alternative rock.

Jane's Addiction released “Nothing's Shocking,” their debut album, in 1988. The band released “Ritual de lo Habitual,” their second album, in 1990. The set made it into the Top 20 on Billboard's 200 chart. It was the band's highest-selling album and in the US went 3x platinum. Four singles were featured off the album, including their No. 1 hit singles “Been Caught Stealing” and “Stop!” They didn't release another album for 13 years. “Strays,” the band's third album, was released in 2003. The set peaked in the No. 4 spot on the US charts and “Just Because,” the lead single, made Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The fourth album from Jane's Addiction “The Great Escape Artist,” is set to be released in summer 2011.
