James Taylor Sets Up Residency Dates in California

In February, songwriter/singer James Taylor will be mounting consecutive four night stands in San Francisco and then Los Angeles before heading over to England to do a more extensive tour in the UK.

Starting February 13, Taylor will be playing four night at the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco. He will then head down to Los Angeles to do four shows in the Wilshire Theatre. The complete itinerary for Taylor’s UK trek is listed on his website.

Currently Taylor isn’t backing any specific recording. The latest studio album for Taylor was “James Taylor at Christmas” released last November. It was the second of his holiday-themed sets following “James Taylor: A Christmas Album” that was released in 2005.

Dave Grusin, the jazz giant, produced 10 out of the 12 songs on the latest holiday album. The track list for the album include interpretations by Taylor of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and a cover of “River” originally by Joni Mitchell.

The most recent album for Taylor that is non-holiday, all new material is “October Road” released in 2002. He told Canadian Press recently that this summer he is expecting to begin recording his new album.

Taylor is one of the many well known artists who recorded Tony Bennett duets on the album “Tony Bennett: Duets/An American Classic,” which celebrates Bennett’s 80th birthday. Last September the album hit the stores.
