James Taylor, the American songwriter-singer and guitarist, was born March 12, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts. Taylor has won five Grammy awards and in 2000 became a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

James Taylor’s first album, “James Taylor,” was released by the Beatles record label Apple Records in 1968 (UK) and 1969 (US) while he was living in England. After moving to California, Taylor recorded his second album, “Sweet Baby James, which was released in 1970. The set spawned the No. 3 hit “Fire and Rain” and the album sold over 3 million U.S. copies. Taylor released “Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon” in 1971. The set contained his version of King’s “You’ve Got a Friend.” The song made it to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with the album making it to No. 2 on Billboard’s album chart.

Taylor married Carly Simon in 1972. They are the parents of two children, daughter Sally Taylor and son Ben Taylor, who is also a singer and performer. Taylor and Simon divorced in 1983. Taylor’s “Greatest Hits” album from 1976 is Diamond certified and sold 12 million copies in the U.S. He released his the set “JT” in 1977 and since then has maintained a large audience. James Taylor’s commercial achievement did slightly decline, but during the late 1990s as well as 2000s saw a resurgence following the release of his some of most awarded and best selling albums, including “Covers,” “October Road” and “Hourglass.”
