hank williams jr Biography

The country musician and singer-songwriter Hank Williams Jr. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 26, 1949. He is the son of folk and country singer Hank Williams. His style of music is a blend of traditional country, blues and Southern rock. Hank Williams died in 1953 but numerous musicians visited the family. Williams Jr. learned many musical styles and instruments from them. His major influences include Jerry Lee Lewis, Earl Scruggs, Fats Domino and Johnny Cash.

Williams Jr. started his music career by imitating the style of his father's and singing his songs. He struggled for many years to find his own place and voice inside country music. After an almost fatal fall in 1975 off of a mountain and extended recovery, Williams Jr. came back to challenge traditional country music with his blend of rock, blues and country. During the 1980s Williams saw a lot of success and gained popularity outside as well as inside country music. He was also very prolific, releasing 21 albums from 1979 to 1992. All of these albums were certified gold at least. During this time Williams Jr. also had 30 singles in the top ten on Billboard's Country charts. These included eight No. 1 singles.

Hank Williams Jr. has released more than fifty studio albums as well as fourteen compiliation albums and ninty singles. His latest album "Old School New Rules" is set to be released in July 2012. He has sold over 36 million worldwide albums. Williams Jr. is a multi-instrumentalist and plays guitar, drums, fiddle, harmonica, keyboards, piano, banjo, steel guitar, upright bass and bass guitar.
