Guns n Roses Added as Headliner for Governors Ball

New York City’s Governors Ball already had two of the biggest headliners of this year’s festival season with Kanye West and Kings of Leon, but now Guns N’ Roses have signed on to make the lineup even more potent.

When the initial lineup for the festival was revealed at the end of January, the third headlining spot was coved by a black bar on the bill.

“We’re stoked to be performing at the Governors Ball!” said GNR frontman (and only remaining original member) Axl Rose in a statement. “We’re all really excited in GNR to be part of this festival, and with such talented and diverse acts in what looks to be a great weekend.”

The festival will be held at Randall’s Island Park in New York City on June 7-9. Other notable performers in the eclectic lineup include Avett Brothers, Nas, The Lumineers, Miguel, Of Monsters and Men, Dirty Projectors, Beach House, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, The xx and many more.

This will be the third installment of the festival, and the first time it has been held over three days. The first event was a one-day show in 2011, and it expanded to two days last year. Organizers say this year’s festivities will be held in a more spacious site, offering expanded opportunities for art installations and a more extensive list of food vendors.

The date is the first announced U.S. date for GNR this year, which haven’t performed in the country since finishing up a residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas last fall.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, but Rose failed to show up for the induction ceremony saying he was boycotting the event. Original members Slash, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler reunited, however, to perform classic GNR songs with Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy stepping into Rose’s place.
