Gregg Allman Doing Well After Liver Transplant

Fans of the Allman Brothers Band would certainly welcome the news of Gregg Allman now in the recovery stage after going through a liver transplant as part of his treatment for Hepatitis C. The surgery was done at Jacksonville’s Mayo Clinic last Wednesday after a year or so of waiting for a compatible liver donor.

“I feel pretty good, considering everything that’s happened,” the 62-year old recovering musician shared. Due to his recent illness, the band had to pull the plug off their other previous engagements, including their annual gig in NYC’s Beacon Theatre and a scheduled appearance at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago a few days ago, headlined by legendary troubadour Eric Clapton.

As for how he might have contracted the contagious disease which can be transmitted through bodily fluids such as blood, Allman traces back to his history of substance abuse and love for tattoos. While he does cite his somewhat raucous past as the origin of his ailment, he does not want to linger on the idea, but rather, focus his energies and thoughts in the future. “…we can’t turn back time. Every day is a gift, and I can’t wait to get back on the road making music with my friends,” he adds.
