Green Day Schedule Winter Tour to Support Album Trio

Even though singer Billie Joe Armstrong canceled a show in Italy last week after reportedly being rushed to the hospital with an undisclosed illness, Green Day still rocked hard on the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards last Thursday. Now we’ve got even more reason to think Billie Joe’s fully recovered as the band schedules a winter tour to support their three upcoming albums.

The dates will kick off in Seattle on November 26, and the group is scheduled to stay on the road through at least the February 8, 2013 show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Cities the group will visit in between those dates include Sacramento, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Omaha.

All of the 2012 dates will be held at theaters, and the band will upgrade to arenas for all of the scheduled 2013 concerts. The concerts will support the release of three albums, ¡UNO!, ¡DOS!, ¡TRÉ!, which will be released over the next few months between now and January. ¡UNO!, will be released on September 24.

At the VMA’s, which were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the group played “Let Yourself Go,” a song from ¡UNO!. The song is one of the few we’ve heard so far from the upcoming album, along with the singles “Oh Love” and “Kill the DJ.”

Also on tap from the band are two documentaries in the coming months. The first, made by Tim Lynch, will focus on the making of the new albums that will be released soon. Lynch previously worked with the band as a producer on the recent live DVD “Green Day: Bullet in a Bible.” Tim Wheeler, previously known as the editor of “The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights,” is co producer of the documentary.

The second documentary will feature archival footage of the band before the release of their breakthrough album, Dookie.
