The American rock band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals was formed in 2004 in Waitsfield, Vermont. The lead vocalist for the group is Grace Potter, a multi-instrumentalist who plays acoustic and electric guitars, Wurlitzer Electric Piano, Fender Rhodes and Hammond B3. Other band members include Scott Tournet (harmonica and guitars), Matthew Burr (drums, harmonica), Catherine Popper (vocals, bass guitar) and Benny Yurco (vocals and electric guitar). Before leaving the group in 2009, Bryan Dondero played mandolin, upright bass and bass guitar with the band.
In 2005, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals recorded and independently released “Nothing But the Water.” In December 2005, the group signed with Hollywood Records. “Nothing But the Water” was re-released in May 2006. The band won the “Best New Groove” Jammy Award in 2006.
“This Is Somewhere,” the group's second album, was released in August 2007. That fall they supported Gov't Mule on their North American tour. In Summer 2008 they provided support for the North American tour of The Black Crowes.
Their self-titled studio album “Grace Potter and the Nocturnals,” was released in June 2010. Their set peaked in the No. 5 spot on the iTunes Top 100 as well as No. 2 on the Itunes Rock Album chart. “Paris (Ooh La La)” made the top 40 and”Fooling Myself” made the Top 100 on the iTunes Rock Songs chart.
