George Strait Taps Blake Shelton for Upcoming Tour
The heat has just been turned up by George Strait for his spring/summer trek. He has added Blake Shelton, one of the Sexiest Men Alive according to People magazine.
Shelton will be joining Julianne Hough, two time champion of the “Dancing With The Stars” competition and previously announced opener for Strait’s shows. The trek will kick off in Hidalgo, TX on May 9.
Currently the schedule for Strait is comprised of 17 cities that stretch from the East Coast over to the Rocky Mountains as well as into Canadian territory through July. Big summer festival stops include Craven, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Alberta; Cheyenne, WY; Cadott, WI; and Milwaukee, WI.
Strait continues supporting “Troubador,” his album released last April. It made its debut on Billboard’s 200 chart at No. 1 and recently was nominated for two Grammys: Best Male Country Performance and Best Country Album. The album has spawned the hit single “I Saw God Today,” Strait’s highest single debut ever and the 79th track in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Strait’s career spans over 25 years and he has more No. 1 hit singles on the Hot Country Songs chart than any singer in history, with a total of 57 chart toppers. Strait has sold over 67 millions records, with 32 being certified as multi-platinum or platinum.
Strait will be recognized in April as Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music to recognize his record setting career.
Hough’s self-titled debut hit No. 1 on the country albums chart, bowing out in the No. 3 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart. It was fueled by “That Song In My Head,” her crossover/country hit. That May released was followed up by Hough with a collection of holiday songs sold exclusively in Target stores.
Shelton is supporting “Startin’ Fires,” his fifth studio album that was released in November. It made the Top 40 of the US album chart. “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” Shelton’s latest single, current holds a spot in the Top 10 of the country charts.
