George Michael, the English singer-songwriter, musician and record producer, was born on June 25, 1963 in North London. During the 1980s, he rose to fame with Wham!, the pop duo, along with Andrew Ridgeley. “Careless Whisper,” Michael's first solo single, was released while Michael was still with Wham! and sold approximately six million worldwide copies.
George Michael is one of the top selling music artists in the world. As of 2010, he had sold more than 100 million worldwide albums. “Faith,” his debut solo album from 1987, has sold more than 25 million worldwide copies. In the UK, he has had seven No. 1 singles and eight No. 1 hit singles on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
Over the course of Michael's 30 year career, he has won many music awards, including Grammy Awards (two out of eight nominations), American Music Awards (three), Ivor Novello Awards (four), MTV Video Music Awards (four) and Brit Awards (three).
Michael was name as British radio's most played artist for the 1984-2004 time period by Radio Academy in 2004. In 2005, a documentary on Michael's life was released called “A Different Story.” In 2006, Michael launched “25 Live.” It was the first time he had toured in 15 years. The massive world tour spanned over three years (2006-2008).
