George Clinton, Three 6 Mafia Join Insane Clown Posse for Gathering of the Juggalos

In a highly produced, 23-minute video on their website, the Insane Clown Posse announced that George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and the Three 6 Mafia will be among the performers at this year’s annual Gathering of the Juggalos Festival.

This year’s festival will be the 13 installment of the event, and will take place August 8-12 at Cave-In-Rock, Ill. In an interview with Billboard.com, one half of the ICP duo, Violent J, said that this year’s festival will “feature more rock than we ever had, and a lot of f***in’ rap.”

Taking care of the rock side of the festival will be P.O.D., Soulfly, Static-X, Mushroomhead, Rehab, (Hed) Pe and Zug Island. On the rap side of things will be Master P, the Geto Boys, Tech N9ne, DMX, the Game, Kottonmouth Kings, Kool Keith, Slaine, Mack 10, Onyx, Prozak and Danny Brown. The Millionaires will also appear at the festival, as will the Michael Jackson tribute Who’s Bad?

The comedy portion of the festival also will be expanded this year, and will be headlined by Cheech & Chong. Also appearing are Ralphie May, Jamie Kennedy, Bobcat Goldthwait and more.

In the interview with Billboard, Violent J did say that he wished they had gotten some more prominent names for the festival.

“The idea was to step it up by getting some huge, big, big-name acts – but believe it or not, we couldn’t” he said. “Nobody would agree to do it. Everyone we asked, sweet-ass bands like Alice in Chains, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie… everyone we tried to get of that level, it wasn’t happening.”

Of course, Insane Clown Posse will also be performing, though their headlining set will be on Saturday night this year instead of the traditional Sunday night slot. The other member of ICP, Shaggy 2 Dope, explained this move.

“There’s still a lot of shit going on Sunday,” he said to Billboard.com, “but this gives Juggalos and even curious spectators a chance to see us and then pack up and leave Sunday if they have to get back to work on Monday, y’know?”
