foo fighters Biography

The rock band The Foo Fighters were formed in 1994 in Seattle, Washington. Dave Grohl, former drummer for Nirvana, formed the band as a solo project after leaving Nirvana. Prior to Foo Fighters being released, the debut album for the group, Grohl enlisted drummer William Goldsmith and bassist Nate Mendel, both who had been Sunny Day Real Estate members, along with guitarist Pat Smear, touring Nirvana bandmate, to complete The Foo Fighters lineup. Before gaining popularity they started performing in Portland, Oregon. During the recording of The Colour and the Shape in 1997, the band's second album, Goldsmith left the band. Smear departure shortly thereafter. Franz Stahl and Taylor Hawkins replaced them, although Stahl left the band before the recording of their third album in 1999, There Is Nothing Left to Lose.

After There Is Nothing Left to Lose was completed, guitarist Chris Shiflett joined the band. In 2002 One by One, the band's fourth album, was released. In 2005, the Foo Fighters released In Your Honor, which was a mixture of heavy and acoustic material. In 2007 Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace was released. Smear rejoined the band officially in 2010. Wasting Light, the band's seventh album, is scheduled to be released in April 2011.
