fiona apple Biography
The American singer-songwriter Fiona Apple was born in Manhattan, New York on September 13, 1977. “Tidal,” Apple's debut album, was released in 1996. The set was certified by the RIAA as three times platinum with sales of 2.7 million copies. The third single “Criminal” made it into the Billboard Hot 100 chart's top forty. Other “Tidal” singles included “Never Is a Promise” “Sleep to Dream” and “Shadowboxer.” During this time Apple also recorded “Across the Universe” by the Beatles and “Please Send Me Someone to Love” by Percy Mayfield for the Pleasantville film soundtrack.
In 1999, Apple released “When the Pawn,” her second album. Commercially the set didn't do as well as her debut album. However it did sell 1 million U.S. copies and was platinum certified by the RIAA. “Fast as You Can,” the lead single, made it into the top 20 of the Billboard chart Modern Rock Tracks.
“Extraordinary Machine,” Apple's third album, was released in 2005. It debuted in the number seven spot and received a Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy Award nomination. The set sold 462,000 U.S. copies and was certified gold. In late 2005, Apple embarked on a live tour in support of the album. In Spring 2011 Apple is scheduled to release a new album.
