evanescence Biography
The American rock band Evanescence was formed in 1995 in Little Rock, Arkansas by Amy Lee, singer/pianist, and Ben Moody, guitarist. The first full-length album from the band, “Fallen” was released in 2003. The set has sold over 17 million worldwide copies and won two Grammy Awards. “Bring Me to Life” the debut singe off of “Fallen,” peaked in the No. 5 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. “My Immortal” rose to the No. 7 spot. Their two Grammy Awards in 2004 were in the Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance categories.
In 2004, “Anywhere but Home,” the band's first live album, was released. The set has sold over one million worldwide copies. “The Open Door,” the band's second studio album, was released in 2006 and has sold over six million copies.
The band's line-up has had several changes. In 2002, David Hodges left, in 2003 Moody, one of the co-founders, departed, in 2006 bassist Will Boyd left and in 2007 drummer Rocky Gray and guitarist John LeCompt departed. The final two changes resulted in the band going on hiatus and temporary band members contributed on tour. It was announced in June 2009 that Evanescence was working on their third studio album. The set is scheduled to be released in October 2011.
