Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck Take to the Road
Legendary guitarists Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck will join forces in February for a short jaunt of shows. This will be the first time the two have shared a bill on the same tour. The duo will start things off with two dates at the O2 Arena in London (2/13 – 14) then jump across the pond for a night at New York’s Madison Square Garden (2/18) and close out in Canada with Toronto (2/21) and Montreal (2/22). The two men are tied together in musical history. Jeff Beck took Eric Clapton’s place as guitarist of the Yardbirds in 1965 when Clapton parted ways with the band.
Clapton and Beck have gotten quite chummy of late. Beck filled in for the missing Clapton at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th Anniversary in October as Clapton was sidelined by gallstone surgery. They played a show together at Tokyo’s Saitama Super Arena earlier in the year and have been in contact frequently since playing around with the idea of fleshing out more dates.
Beck said, “Eric and I played together in Japan earlier this year and had a blast. Since then we have been in regular contact and talked about doing a similar show for our fans. Looking forward to the shows in 2010.” As for Clapton’s take on the matter, “I’ve always considered Jeff Beck to be one of the finest guitar players around. He’s a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician. We had such a fun time in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again.”
Tickets go onsale through Ticketmaster this morning at 10am (12/4) for the Toronto show and tomorrow at noon (12/5) for the Montreal show. Onsale dates for the New York show are still forthcoming.
