Eric Church Leads American Country Music Award Nominations with Seven
Eric Church emerged with the most Academy of Country Music Awards nominations this year with seven.
The nominations for the 48th Annual ACM Awards were announced yesterday, February 13, and Hunter Hayes came in a close second in the race for the most nominations with six. Right behind him were Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert with five nominations apiece.
Church, however, did not get a nod for the biggest prize at the awards, Entertainer of the Year. Instead, nominations for that category went to Swift, Lambert, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton. The fact that Shelton and Lambert are married makes the category even more intriguing this year.
Instead, Church’s biggest nomination was Male Vocalist of the Year. In addition to him, Bryan, Aldean and Shelton, that category also includes Toby Keith. The Female Vocalist of the Year category includes both Swift and Lambert as well as Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood and Kacey Musgraves.
Musgraves’ name is something of a shock in the category, but was one of four total nominations for the young singer. The surprising part is she has yet to release her major label debut (Same Trailer Different Park is set for release next month) but has been enjoying success with her single “Merry Go ‘Round.” The song has yet to crack the top 10 but is still rising on the Country charts, and I’d put it as the best new song currently on Country radio, if I may editorialize for half a sentence.
Album of the year honors go to Church, Swift, Underwood, Bryan and Little Big Town.
Hunter Hayes’ biggest nomination comes for Song of the Year for “Wanted.” Other artists nominated in the category include Lee Brice, The Eli Young Band, Shelton and Lambert, and Church.
Finally, there’s another bit of romantic rivalry in the Best New Artist Category, as nominees Jana Kramer and Brantley Gilbert just announced their engagement last month. They are up against Florida Georgia Line in the category.
