Dolly Parton, the American songwriter-singer, multi-instrumentalist, actress, author and philanthropist, was born on January 19, 1946 in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Parton is one country music's all-time successful female artists. She has been dubbed “The Queen of Country Music” and had 41 top ten country albums and twenty five No. 1 singles. In each of the past five decades she has performed a country hit in the top five. Parton and Reba McEntire are the only country singers to have No. 1 hit singles four decades in a row. Parton is best known for having a distinctive soprano voice, voluptuous figure, flamboyant style and bawdy humor.

Parton first achieved success as a songwriter in Nashville and in 1967 became a regular performer on the Porter Wagoner Show. In 1971 “Joshua” became Parton's first No. 1 single. He also released “Coat of Many Colors,” her signature song, in 1971. The single made it to No. 4. In 1973 “Jolene” was a blockbuster hit and chart topper. Parton released “I Will Always Love You” in 1974, which was also a No. 1 hit.

Parton is one of country music's most honored performers. She has had forty two top 10 country albums and 110 charted singles over her forty plus year career. Parton has won 8 Grammy Awards along with the Grammys' Lifetime Achievement Award, 10 Country Music Association Awards and 7 Academy of Country Music Awards. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. In 2005, Parton received a National Medal of Arts and in 2006 was honored for her lifetime contribution to the arts by the Kennedy Center Honors.

Parton is also a successful entrepreneur and is the co-owner of Dollywood Company, which owns Dollywood, a theme park, Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, a dinner theater, and Dollywood's Splash Country, a water park.

Parton has also had a successful acting career and has appeared in such films as Nine To Five (1980), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), Rhinestone (1984), Steel Magnolias (1989) and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005).
