Destiny's Child, Mary J Blige Duke it Out as Soul Train's Lady of Soul

On Tuesday Mary J. Blige, Eve and Destiny’s Child led the field and picked up three nominations for Soul Train’s Lady of Soul Award.  On September 2 in a ceremony held in Santa Monica, CA the winner will be announced.  The ceremony will be videotaped as well for a prime time, two hour television special.

Destiny’s Child, the vocal group that was a reduced to a trio from a quartet last month after Farrah Franklin departed, has been nominated for Rap or R&B/Soul Song of the Year as well as Best Soul/R&B single for their song “Say My Name” as well as Soul/R&B Album of the Year, Group, Band or Duo for their set “The Writing’s On The Wall.”

Rapper Eve received nominations for Best Rap or R&B/Soul Music Video for “Love Is Blind,” which featured Faith Evans, Best Rap or R&B/Soul New Artist, Solo for “Gotta Man,” and Soul/R&B Album of the Year, Soul for “Let There Be Eve- Ruff Ryders’ First Lady.”

Mary J. Blige, soul and hip hop singer, was nominated for Rap or R&B Soul Song of the Year and Soul/R&B Single, Solo for “All That I Can Say” as well as Soul/R&B Album of the Year, Solo for “Mary.”

Jazzyfatnastees, Mary Mary, Angie Stone, Yolanda Adams, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, Missy Elliot, Aaliyah and TLC all received two nominations each.

The Aretha Franklin Entertainer of the Year Award will go to Toni Braxton this year.  Actress Halle Berry will be honored with the Lena Horne Award for Outstanding Career Achievements.

Shemar Moore, soap opera star, and Sisqo will be co-hosting the ceremonies.

Soul Train’s Lady of Soul Awards exclusively celebrate and honor the accomplishments made by female recording artists.  Don Cornelius Productions says it’s the only Awards Ceremony of its kind in existence currently.
