Deftones Introduces New Album on October Tour with Scars on Broadway
Deftones fans have a lot to get excited about: they will be getting a new album and tour from the band before the end of the year.
The group announced that their seventh studio album will be titled Koi No Yokan and will be released November 13. The band also will spend the majority of October on the road getting fans ready for a new album, following a couple of festival appearances at the end of September.
The festival dates will begin with the band’s performance at Epicenter on September 22 in Irvine, Calif., followed by a set at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento the following day.
The group’s headlining tour will then kick off at the Ventura Theatre in Ventura, Calif. on October 9 and is scheduled to run through October 30 with a show at Terminal 5 in New York. In between, the band will hit cities including San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago, Philadelphia and Boston. All of these shows will see support from Scars on Broadway – the group formed by System of a Down members Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan.
Koi No Yokan will be the group’s first album since 2010’s Diamond Eyes. Deftones frontman Chino Moreno told Billboard recently that the record relies very heavily on dynamics.
“Some of my favorite things about Deftones are the dynamics,” he said. “Yes, we’re a heavy band, but we’re not just in-your-face agro the whole time, punching you in the face. There’s a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there’s also this very soothing element where there’s a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I understand that’s a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities – the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression.”
