dave koz Biography

The smooth jazz saxophonist Dave Koz was born in Encino, California on March 27, 1963. He majored in mass communications at UCLA, and after graduating decided to become a professional musician. Koz initially toured with Bobby Caldwell and then was a session musician with several bands. During the late 1980s Koz toured with Richard Marx and was a member of his band. He also was a member of the house band for the television series "The Pat Sajak Show."

Koz began pursuing a solo career in 1990 and started to record for Capitol Records. He recorded the albums "Saxophonic," "The Dance" and "Lucky Man" with Capitol. "Saxophonic" received both NAACP Image Award and Grammy Award nominations.

Koz became the host of his own syndicated radio program in 1994 and co-hosted with Pat Prescott a morning show on a Los Angeles smooth jazz station for six years. He left the show in 2007. Koz started Rendezvous Entertainment, a record label, in 2002 with Hyman Katz and Frank Cody. He became a host on a Smooth Jazz Network syndicated afternoon show in 2006 and also hosts a television show called Frequency where he interviews musicians. Koz has interviewed Kelly Sweet, Jonathan Butler and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others.

Dave Koz plays both alto and soprano sax. He received his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 2009. In 2010 Koz appeared on the television show "Desperate Housewives" where he played "Start All Over Again." The latest album from Koz is "Hello Tomorrow," his ninth studio album, which was released in 2010.
