Train Goes Club Hopping in San Francisco

Train Goes Club Hopping in San Francisco

As Train prepares for the release of their new upcoming record, they have announced a special hometown tour of San Francisco.

The band will play six different venues in six nights in the California city, and the club hopping tour will begin April 10 at the Café du Nord. After that, the band will play the Great American Music Hall, Bimbo’s, Slim’s, Independent and the Fillmore. A portion of the proceeds from these shows will go to Family House, which is a San Francisco based charity that provides temporary housing for families with seriously ill children.

California 37, the band’s upcoming record, will be released shortly thereafter on April 17. The album will be Train’s sixth studio album, and is the first to be released since Save Me, San Francisco came out in 2009. The album’s first single, “Drive By” was released in January and has since sold over 200,000 copies.

In other Train news, lead singer Pat Monahan will sing the National Anthem before this year’s Daytona 500. The race will be held this Sunday, February 26.

Save Me, San Francisco sparked a renewed interest in Train’s career, primarily because of the single “Hey, Soul Sister,” which was the best-selling single of 2010. The song topped the singles charts in the United States, as well as 15 countries around the world. Monahan co-wrote the song with Espionage, a Norwegian songwriting duo and production team. “Drive By” also was written by Monahan and Espionage.

The band first came to prominence with the release of their self-titled debut that was released in 1998. That album contained the hit “Meet Virginia,” and the band followed the record with Drops of Jupiter, which has gone on to become their most commercially successful album to date. Released in 2001, it contained the hit title track that won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.

Train Returns to Road with New Album Release

It’s been four years since Train released its 2006 effort “For Me, It’s You” and it seems it’s time for the band to get back to doing what they do best – making music. Train’s latest release “Save Me San Francisco” was released on October 26 features the original core trio of band members – Pat Monahan (vocals), Scott Underwood (drums) and Jimmy Stafford (guitar). Their latest single “Hey, Soul Sister” seems to be catching on with radio as the band lays down plans for their upcoming tour.

Things are due to start in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March 4 and will run through July 18 at Costa Mesa, California. Butch Walker and the Black Widows have stepped forward to provide opening support on Train’s tour. A full listing of Train tour dates are listed below.

The band hasn’t disappeared since their 2006 outing, they just went on temporary hiatus, allowing Pat Monahan to step out and record his debut solo album “Last of Seven.” When recently asked about the break, Monahan stated on the band’s website, “I think taking time away from each other really made the heart grow fonder. We realized how important we were to one another and taking a few years off helped us all really look at ourselves and what we could contribute to this band as opposed to what we weren’t getting from the band.”
