Weiland Vocal Woes Postpone Stone Temple Pilots Tour Dates

Stone Temple Pilots are having to cancel their final four dates from their summer tour.

On Facebook, the group wrote that their singer Scott Weiland isn’t able to perform due to an injured vocal chord.

A message was also included by the Stone Temple Pilots from Dr. Sid Khosl, Weiland’s doctor. He said, on Wednesday Dr. Keith Casper, Dr. Evan Van Leer and myself had a consultation with Mr. Weiland. We determined after a video stroboscopy that there is likely scarring on Weiland’s left vocal chord and that he also has a tremendously inflamed right vocal chord.

We determined that with so much vocal activity and heavy concert scheduled that there was the risk that Mr. Weiland might suffer permanent damage or suffer a vocal hemorrhage. That is why we have placed him on a full vocal rest.

The Council Bluffs, Iowa concert planned for tonight as well as shows scheduled for earlier this week are going to be rescheduled.

Last summer, Stone Temple Pilots had to postpone dates on their tour when Weilland admitted to battling addiction while he was on-stage.

Stone Temple Pilots Plan Intimate Club Gigs Before Australian Trek

Scott Weiland and the rest of rock icons Stone Temple Pilots will be going back on the road, locally and overseas, in spring after a holiday break off their successful world tour last fall.

The jaunt will include a short trek in the US with a three-date stop in the Midwest; Aspen, CO on February 17, Thackerville, OK on the 19th, and Biloxi, MS the day after, and one in Las Vegas on the 25th to wrap up the short jaunt.

The band will also be heading down south in Australia in mid-March, starting off with a show in Perth on March 16, West Melbourne on the 19th, Moore Park the day after, Brisbane and Newcastle on the 23rd and 24th, respectively, and finally in Auckland, New Zealand on the 26th to cap everything off. Tickets for all shows can be accessed via the band’s official website.

STP has had a busy 2010 with the release of their self-named anthology which marks their sixth release and their first effort in nine years. The effort follows the band’s 2001 set, “Shangri-La Dee Da”. The 2010 compilation peaked at no.2 at the Billboard 200 and ruled Billboard’s Top Rock and Hard Rock Albums list upon its release.

The band is coming off the heels of their successful world tour which was launched last fall and closed in South America just a week ago.

Stone Temple Pilots Lay Down Changes to Fall Tour Itenerary

Stone Temple Pilots Lay Down Changes to Fall Tour Itenerary

Alt-rock vets Stone Temple Pilots just announced some late-breaking changes to their current itinerary which will now be moved altogether to October 8 with a new kick-off point in Tampa’s St. Pete Times Forum.

Eleven stops from the previously announced tour schedule were affected by the change.  Of the eleven, seven shows in the south and the Midwest have been removed from the list: two cities in Texas (El Paso and Lubbock), two cities in Oklahoma (Thackerville and Tulsa), Alpharetta, GA, St. Charles, MO and Simpsonville, SC, while the remaining four stops – Raleigh and Charlotte, NC and Austin and Corpus Christi, TX – were rescheduled to October 19, 20, 22 and 23, respectively.

Meanwhile, nine shows in the west coast and the north were added in place of the reshuffled and removed stops: five shows in California – San Diego, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Indio and San Francisco which are scheduled for October 26, 27, 29, 30 and November 1 respectively, Kent, WA on November 3 and three Canadian west coast stops – Vancouver, Calgary and Saskatoon – for November 4, 6, and 7 respectively.  These shows will be followed by a short slew of Caribbean and South American shows in Mexico, The Bahamas, Peru and Colombia.

The reason for the drastic changes in the schedule was not specified by the band or its representatives, however, it has been speculated that the low ticket returns, especially in El Paso, is the main reason.  Another speculation, as the Houston Press has reported, is that STP lead vocalist Scott Weiland “seemed off mentally” during the band’s performance at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion three days ago, which could be the reason for the band’s simple statement immediately released after the schedule change, which said that the band “will take a short break and resume in mid-October in Florida.”

Stone Temple Pilots Booking Tour Dates Despite Seizure

Fans of the Stone Temple Pilots who were worried that the recent seizure suffered by frontman Scott Weiland might affect the fall tour plans of the band can take comfort in knowing that a trek into Canada has been added onto the tour.

The tour for the reunited rockers will start on October 2 at Bayfest in Mobile Alabama, which will be followed up with stops in approximately 12 other US cities by the end of October. The band will then take a short break and then take on the recently added Canadian leg of the tour, starting in Victoria, British Columbia on November 7, followed by a tour of another seven Canadian cities.

News of the Canadian expansion came just a few days after Weiland was reported to have had a mild seizure while on his way to Miami from Los Angeles while aboard an American Airlines plane. The incident occurred on September 18 and the plane made an emergency landing in Texas at the Dallas-Ft Worth International Airport.

A Weiland representative told Rolling Stone magazine that the flight crew had used the public address system on the plane to ask for medical assistance and also gave Weiland oxygen. He was reported to be in good spirits while being taken off the plane on his way to the local hospital.

Weiland, who is reported to have a history with seizures, still was able to make it to the stage on September 19 in Miami at an event marking the launch of “Weiland for English Laundry,” a new line of men’s clothing.

Last year the Stone Temple Pilots had a full reunion tour, which was their first US tour in almost eight years. This year they had a sporadic summer schedule. The band won a 1994 Grammy Award for “Plush,” and had fifteen top 10 singles. Their last release in 2001 was “Shangri-La Dee Da.” The group disbanded soon after that.

Weiland, who released a second solo album last fall- “Happy in Galoshes”- acknowledged that there are plans for a new Stone Temple Pilots album.

In a Spin magazine interview earlier this year Weiland said that the DeLeo Brothers were already writing instrumental music for a new album. He added that the process is different than with solo stuff. In early 2010 Stone Temple Pilots will have a new album out, Weiland said.
