Grammy winner Chris Cornell, fresh from his departure with rock band Audioslave, will be spending the last days of summer and welcome the fall with a lengthy North American tour to further promote his current solo release “Carry On”.
The tour, which Cornell initially began tackling since spring of this year, will kick off its fall leg with a string of shows in Canada starting on September 25 in Winnipeg until October 2 in Vancouver, after which he’ll be shifting gears and course through 22 US cities from Seattle to Las Vegas where he’ll be closing the tour on November 23.
The rock singer is also scheduled to perform overseas with a string of shows in New Zealand and Australia that should last for two weeks, details of which are posted on Cornell’s website. He is also scheduled to perform in Austria, Hungary and Poland as soon as a new schedule has been worked out. Shows in these countries had to be cancelled earlier due to Cornell’s strained vocal chords.
As mentioned, Cornell confirmed reports early this year that he is definitely flying solo with the disbandment of Audioslave, citing irreconcilable personal and creative differences as the reason for the split. The group had hinted about the disbandment when they released their last record “Revelations” in 2006 and has not gone on tour to promote the album. At present, the ex-Audioslave members except for Cornell have gone back to their mother band Rage Against the Machine along with lead vocalist Zack de la Rocha.
“Carry On” is Cornell’s 13th record since he came out in the music scene with the now defunct Soundgarden. As for his solo career, the current album is Cornell’s second and his follow-up to 1999’s “Euphoria Morning”. “Carry On” hit retail stores in June and entered the Billboard 200 list at no.17. It features the carrier single “No Such Thing” and another cut, “You Know My Name” which is also among the tracks in the original soundtrack of “Casino Royale”, the latest installment from the James Bond movie franchise.
Chris Cornell and the rest of Audioslave, who are also part of the band Rage Against the Machine have finally confirmed the details of their upcoming fall tour which will kick off this month.
As posted earlier, the tour will set off with a show in Bakersfield, CA on September 24 and will travel to 34 cities across North America. A couple of shows have also been added, a show on October 29 in New York’s Madison Square Garden and the tour’s last pit stop on November 19 in Las Vegas’ Thomas and Mack Center.
The tour will support the band’s second album “Out of Exile” which topped the Billboard 200 when it was released in May. The band will also be singing hits from both Soundgarden and Rage – it’s like going to three concerts in one night. This will be the first time for Audioslave to dig through their old band’s library of hits, which they didn’t do when they rallied on the road behind their eponymous 2002 debut album.
Still to perform as opening acts are Seether who is currently promoting their album “Karma and Release” which surfaced in May and landed at the 8th spot on the Billboard 200, and Kasabian who recently released a live digital album entitled “Live from Brixton Academy” which was recorded last December.
Tickets for most shows for the Audioslave fall outing are already available to the public and ticket presales are also available online. Visit the band’s website for more ticket information.
