Simon & Garfunkel KO Upcoming Tour

The summer tour of Simon & Garfunkel, which originally had been scheduled for April and then moved to July because of the vocal troubles of Art Garfunkel, now has been postponed for an indefinite period of time.

A statement was posted on Simon & Garfunkel’s website to announce the cancellation of their “Old Friends Tour.” The continued vocal paresis of Art Garfunkel was the reason given for the cancellation of the tour. A full recovery for Garfunkel is expected.

Due to the fact that the singer still hasn’t healed satisfactorily, the duo thought the best thing to do was postpone their scheduled 15 city outing.

Garfunkel stated, I feel bad disrupting the plans of so many. Although, I am continuing to heal, I still am not able to take my “A game” with me out on tour. I won’t perform with anything less than that.

The statement advised that ticket holders can received refunds at the point of their purchase.

Originally, Simon & Garfunkel split in 1970. However on numerous occasions over the years, they have reunited. Last fall, they performed at the Rock & Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The 60s iconic duo Simon & Garfunkel have already committed to play the New Orleans Jazz Festival on April 24, but it seems that was just a springboard for a bevy of dates still to come. After Jazz Festival, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel will get things started in Vancouver, British Columbia on April 29 and wind through a 12-city tour through Canada and the north Midwest US before closing out in Montreal, Quebec on May 15. A complete list of Simon & Garfunkel tour dates are outlined below.

Simon & Garfunkel originally went their separate ways in 1970, yet have come together for tours and one shot shows in recent years including the legendary 1981 show in New York’s Central Park that drew a half-million people. The pair were last together in the fall playing the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 20th Anniversary concert. They had a brief jaunt through Australia last summer.

Simon & Garfunkel Together Again at New Orleans Jazz Fest

Last spring, Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon electrified the music world when they announced they would be touring together again after a five year absence.

However when the routing for summer 2009 was announced for only New Zealand and Australia the stateside fan base of the duo was left to wonder whether all they were going to get was the sound of silence. The question has been answered with Simon and Garfunkel’s announcement that they will be part of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival’s lineup.

The festival will, as usual, be running over two weekends in the spring: April 23-25 and April 29-May 2 in New Orleans, LA at Fair Grounds Race Course. Simon and Garfunkel will be making their debut at the Jazz Festival on April 24.

Tickets for single days as well as weekend packages for the Jazz Fest this year have gone on sale already.

A full lineup of formers have been announced already by festival producers for the 2010 festival. The Allman Brothers Band, Lionel Richie, Van Morrison, Aretha Frankling and Pearl Jam are among performers that were previously conformed for this year’s upcoming Jazz Fest. The current lineup in its entirety can be found at the Jazz Fest’s website.

The first time that Art Garfunkel acknowledged that he had plans to reunite with Paul Simon came during a February 2009 BBC interview, although at the time he didn’t confirm any specifics about the route. Simon and Garfunkel, a couple months later, confirmed around 10 performance dates for Australia and New Zealand.
