Toronto’s annual Edgefest will return next year, and Silversun Pickups, Death From Above 1979 and Billy Talent have been announced as headliners for the event. The event will take place in the city’s Downsview Park on July 14, and other acts that will play the main stage include The Sheepdogs, Young the Giant, Dirty Heads USS and The Pack A.D. The festival also will include a side stage, and acts announced to play that stage are Acres of Lions, The Balconies, The Coppertone, The Darcys, Hacienda, Indian Handcrafts, Library Voices, Said the Whale and Whale Tooth.
Edgefest began in 1987 as a tenth anniversary celebration for Toronto rock radio station 102.1 the Edge, and has been held every year since with the exceptions of 2007 and 2010. In that time, it has become the longest running rock show in Canada, and has featured such headliners as Radiohead, Green Day, Blur and Stone Temple Pilots.
Ross Winters, program director for 102.1, released the following statement in a press release:
102.1 the Edge is proud to continue its tradition of showcasing Canadian and International talent at Edgefest ’12. Edgefest gives our dedicated listeners access to a full day of live music in an outdoor setting at Toronto’s Downsview Park.
Goldenvoice, the company responsible for producing the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, presents the festival. Elliot Lefko, the festival’s talent buyer from Goldenvoice, expressed his satisfaction with the lineup. “I feel like this year’s Edgefest is the best one yet!” he said. “I had a dream of the bands that I wanted to see and everyone said yes! In a city without champions we can now declare we have a winner and its name is Edgefest.”
The festival has been held in different locations around the city throughout the years, and has been held in Downsview Park since 2008.

After they wrap the festival circuit, they take on the club/theatre scene starting at the Pipeline Cafe in Honolulu on September 5. Opening support will be handled by Manchester Orchestra on the first leg of the tour with Cage the Elephant covering the remainder.
